The ICP-MS instrument is expensive, touchy, and not easy to maintain. Despite this it is extremely sensitive and selective. Attached is a very simple spreadsheet with a brief set of data for Pb from an ICP-MS analysis. Students should determine the LOD from the data and see how it compares to other methods they have examined (UV-Vis, AA, ASV, Fluorescence Quenching and Ion Chromatography). No Gaussian fitting, or other annoying features, I promise!
